It is just crazy how many diapers I have gone through since my daughter was born. I guesstimate that I have used something like 3,900 disposable diapers since we brought her home from the hospital. She is now 16 months. I really did not like the idea of using these diapers because they don’t break down and so they stay in landfills for hundreds of years. Still I never really saw myself as a cloth diaper kind of person either. Recently I heard about a new hybrid diaper called the gdiaper; it has a cloth outer shell and a disposable inner liner that breaks down in 50 to 150 days. It can also be flushed and you can garden compost the wet ones. I read some reviews of the diaper that were mostly positive with cost being the main stand out, about double the cost of a disposable diaper. Some parents said they were using the gdiaper part of the time and disposables part of the time to help offset the cost. I think that is a great idea for those of us that have to factor in the cost of alternative baby products. It’s also a great example of how we can all do a small part to make a better world for our little diapered dudes and divas!
